Grayskul: Bloody Radio

Grayskul is a hip hop duo from Seattle, WA.  Bloody Radio is they're first nation wide selling album.  Being the creators of their self proclaimed Goth-Hop genre one would expect their cd to take the listener through  many  of the different negative feelings one can experience; paranoia, fear, confusion. But dont expect some radical Insane Clow Posse music.  Bloody Radio is an album with a vision and a purpose and a silver lining underneath the heavy instrumentals and dark lyrics.

MF Doom: Unexpected Guests

MF Doom, or should I say "Metal Fingers" Doom, is London Born, NYC rapper  noted for the Doctor Doom-esque mask he wears during live performance.  His newest release "Unexpected Guests" has MF's naturally interesting and unique beats that, in MF's well known style, almost flawlessly incorporate subtle elements of jazz, folk, psychedelia, and even the boogie-woogie rhythm of J Dilla, who has two appearances on the album.  A must have for anyone who loves underground hip hop.

Dessa: A Badly Broken Code

The career span of a female rapper in today's music industry is somewhere between six months and Kid Sister. But Doomtree's Dessa has found a way to make herself relevant for the long haul. She released a book of poetry and prose dubbed Spiral Bound, followed it up with her debut album, and then toured tirelessly to promote both. Her ability to seamlessly merge spoken word, poetry, and emceeing into one big pot of gumbo is refreshing.

A badly Broken Code is a truly unique piece bursting with vivid memories, joy, pain, and complexity.  Dessa's ability to sing as well as MC adds to the fantasy of her album.  While the album never is quite as aggressive as her Doomtree counter parts, Dessa's melancholy approach and creative word play are guaranteed to keep you entranced.
